He Walked by Night
Overview
He Walked by Night is a unique work for the movies, from an original story by the veteran actor-director-writer Crane Wilbur. Beginning as a fairly simple police procedural it soon turns 180 degrees away from the noble work of the cops, and easily exploits the audience’s seething, almost sadistic fascination with this dangerous protagonist’s undaunted inventiveness. Co-Director Alfred L. Werker was the recipient of a special prize, Best Police Film by the Locarno, Switzerland International Film Festival in 1949.
