Jamaica inn
overview
Here is Hitchcock’s last production made in the U.K., after which he came to Hollywood and shot Rebecca in California. The same novelist (Daphne DuMaurier) wrote Jamaica Inn and Rebecca, as well as The Birds. Hitchcock had been looking forward to expanding his work in what he perceived were the bigger American studios, and bigger American budgets with which to work. Jamaica Inn provided some of that bigger scale for him, and lavish special visual and sound effects. It was a box office hit, but the movie does not seem to be well-known today, even by reputed Hitchcock fans.
